Texas

Thank you for visiting us! Mi Familia En Acción is a national nonprofit organization that works to build Latino, immigrant, and allied political power through civic participation. But today, certain leaders in power try to silence Texan voices by undermining their freedom to vote and turn us against each other so we won’t show up for our family and friends. Together as a community, we can create a Texas that truly serves everyone, no matter the color of their skin. Take action with us today!

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

No matter who or where we are, all people have rights. By knowing our rights under the U.S. constitution, we can begin to identify and protect our families from abuse or intimidation. Knowing your rights is only the first step. We are not legal experts, and families should contact a lawyer for legal advice.

Below is a button that will take you to an in-depth resource guide and a card meant to help people asses their rights in many situations. Sharing resources is a great way to show support for undocumented families, so please share this page with any friends, family and neighbors. Let’s keep familias safe. Thank you for being here.

RESOURCE GUIDE TO KNOW YOUR RIGHTS INFORMATION

KNOW YOUR BALLOT

In Texas, eligible voters should make a plan that includes:

Registering to vote or updating your registration. There is no online voter registration in Texas. You must print and mail the application, or visit your county election department's website. For more help, email us at txinfo@mifamiliavota.org.

Picking when to vote during upcoming elections. Visit your county election department's website to find election information or visit Vote411.org to find out when voting starts, where voting centers are, and view your sample ballot!

Making sure you have an acceptable form of ID. In Texas, only certain IDs are permitted by law. Visit our friends at VoteRiders.com for a full list or free help with getting your ID.

Printing or writing down notes on a sheet of paper, including the Election Protection hotline handy 866-687-8683 En español 888-839-8682. No phones are allowed inside the polling place.

When voters know their ballot and where to find support, they can strengthen their voice in democracy and build power in their families!

KNOW YOUR POWER

In 2024, we helped over 10,000 eligible new voters register in Texas. This is a key step for community voices, across race and place, to be part of key decisions that affect everyone’s ability to thrive and our future.

In 2025, we:

→ Trained 80 Youth Leaders on civic advocacy and voter engagement

→ Supported 86 eligible Legal Permanent Residents on their path to becoming naturalized U.S. citizens

→ Had more than 250 one-on-one conversations to strengthen and grow our community

→ Distributed 2,000+ Know Your Rights cards

→ Knocked on almost 10,000 doorsAs of this year, over 7,300 people across the state have subscribed to receive our monthly newsletters that include volunteer opportunities, powerful civic information, and stories from our community. Over 20% are active monthly readers too!

All of this was possible because a group of 50 volunteers and our staff worked together to canvass, lead workshops, and mobilize as a community. We even gave away a free generator, and on another occasion, we took action with a coalition of partner organizations to secure the release of a community member detained by ICE at his job site. Imagine what we will accomplish together in 2026!

TX Programs

Our citizenship assistance efforts strive to ensure that all eligible legal permanent residents, particularly those of Latin American origin, have the tools and resources at their disposal to achieve their unique American citizenship dream. Our team conducts citizenship information sessions to community members to inform them of eligibility requirements and how to prepare to file for citizenship. Additionally, our team partners with trusted legal professionals to provide confidential pro-bono legal consultation and review N-400 forms. After receiving Citizenship support from Mi Familia en Acción, eligible individuals can mail their forms with full confidence and receive their citizenship a few months later! Through our unique partnership with the government of Mexico, Mi Familia en Acción has access to Mexican consulates in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada and Texas to help eligible Mexicans to achieve American citizenship.

As the largest field operation in the Latino Community, we are proud to work on important policy priorities that impact our people on a daily basis. Mi Familia en Acción's main goals are: Affordability, Healthcare, Voting Rights, Environment, Reproductive Rights, Workers Rights, Education, and Immigration.

Our multi-layered voter mobilization program does strategic targeted outreach to thousands of Latino voters. Every election, whether local, state, or federal, our teams are on the ground, at the doors, and on the phone having the necessary conversations that help get Latino voters to the polls. Mi Familia en Acción prides itself in having the largest field infrastructure in the Latino community that turns out voters each election. Our electoral participation power is deciding the outcomes of elections.

With Latino youth becoming a growing force across our nation, Mi Familia en Acción intentionally provides civic leadership learning and skills development focused on Latino youth ages 18-30 years old. Through our ladder of engagement and organizing model, youth become informed, motivated, empowered, and called to action to be civic leaders. Mi Familia en Acción supports Latino youth in their individual and collective civic journey. As a result, our youth leaders have led their own voter registration drives, advocate for their issue priorities with elected officials, and support our voter mobilization efforts to get out the vote in their networks.

Mi Familia en Acción has 7 priority issue areas that we actively engage community members and elected officials on. These issues include immigrant rights, workers’ rights, voting rights, access to affordable healthcare, access to quality education, climate justice, and reproductive justice. Our teams on the ground engage in city, county, and state level governments to advocate for specific policy priorities. Each year, our team educates and empowers Latino community members to understand their state’s Legislative Session. Our community-focused advocacy efforts provide individuals with the opportunity to ensure their lived experiences impact the policymaking process.

TX Priorities

At Mi Familia en Acción, our mission is to activate the political power of Latinos, immigrants, and the working class through civic engagement. We mobilize year-round in dynamic Texas communities. Given the tumultuous events of the past year, we are seeing that many Latinos feel apprehension or fear about participating in our upcoming elections in November. We know that our Democracy has been under attack since the election in 2024. The current administration has continuously eroded our democratic institutions at an alarming rate.

The long-term goals of our work is to foster lasting trust and confidence in the electoral process among Latino voters, thereby strengthening the foundations of civic participation with this community.
