Mi Familia Vota Texas Statement On Hurricane Beryl

Statement

July 12, 2024

Washington D.C. - Early Monday morning, July 8, Texans woke up to the aftermath of severe winds and rainfall as Hurricane Beryl veered east toward Harris County, where it made landfall as the first storm of hurricane season.

Dayana Iza-Presas, Mi Familia en Acción Texas State Director, released the following statement:

‘Every year, Texans are seeing more dangerous storms, like Hurricane Beryl, that cost us our homes and lives. Unfortunately, a greedy few continue to stand in the way of change for all.

Corporations that pollute our environment and contribute to climate change and the politicians that take their money to spread lies continue to block clean energy laws and provide relief for Texans are standing in the way of recovery and change.

No matter what we look like or what zip code we're in, we are worth every effort and form of relief. We can protect our families' right to clean and safe air and water for generations by taking action together.

The hardest-hit communities, including Latinos, lead the way, showing how we can come together on the road to recovery and hold corporations and politicians accountable. From Houston to El Paso, we want our families to live long, healthy lives.

We have a voice on the ballot, in the economy, Texas, and the federal government. Please donate a few extra bucks or your time as a volunteer to support community partners who are helping Houstonians cover repairs and basic needs as many folks still do not have power:
